DescriptionIn the foreground is a photograph of an Apsáalooke woman on a brown horse appears in front of a decorate buffalo hide with bars of blue and red painted across it. A similarly patterned piece of white cloth embroidered with red, blue, yellow and green bars of color is draped across the woman’s lap. She is dressed in a blue elk-tooth dress and holds a feathered fan. The horse is covered in intricate textiles, fringed bags and a brightly colored cradleboard. Photograph taken during the Crow Nation’s Annual Crow Fair in Montana. The photograph is layered on top of a watercolor illustration from the Denver Art Museum’s card catalogue of Native objects.
