DescriptionAn abstract textile depiction of a prince being crowned king. The portrait is comprised of sewn deconstructed garments, painting, newspaper clippings, bits of unprimed canvas, and other textiles collected from the artist's personal experience and that of friends and family members from around the world. In the top central portion of the work the viewer can see a head with an implied body, crown, and throne, flanked by ancestral spirits and imagery representative of Gods and Goddesses from around the world. A nod to the three-pronged Hindu Gods Vishnu, Brahma, and Shiva exists on the right side of the figure and an African ancestral spirit known as Egunun on the left. The presence of said deities suggests the blessing of the coronation from the spiritual realm.Collections
