DescriptionIn the foreground is a photograph of an Apsáalooke girl on a brown horse appears in front of an animal hide saddle blanket. A similarly decorated blanket with green and blue embroidered bars is draped across the girl’s lap. She wears a black elk-tooth dress and holds a feathered fan. Brightly colored, geometrically patterned blankets hang across the horse’s back and another elk-tooth dress hangs over its rear. A man stands next to the horse, holding its reins. Photograph taken during the Crow Nation’s Annual Crow Fair in Montana. The photograph is layered on top of a watercolor illustration from the Denver Art Museum’s card catalogue of Native objects.
