DescriptionHorizontal, mostly rectangular form containing abstract bold blocks of color and strong lines on astroturf. The work is edged with red yarn, progressing from a deep yellow to a ruddy orange, segmented by bold lines in red and blue. Despite the irregular edges, the undyed border along the left and bottom edges and the yarn trim around the top third of the work serve as hard lines, containing the colors as if it might spill off the astroturf and on to the wall. Contrasting these lines are three small rounds of buckskin applied to the substrate, as we as a smaller green arch that leads to a dark blue edge line. These lines, some of which blur, shift colors, or abruptly end, suggest interior borders, segmenting sections from each other to create discrete passages within the artwork. Curves, echoed in the green half-moon shape, the larger red yarn that runs through the center of the piece, the indented shape along the left side, and the three circular appliques of buckskin soften the hard edges and transform the work from something static and abstract to something that feels living and organic.Collections
