DescriptionA scene of Black women doing hair in what Towns has identified as a church. One woman sits in a chair under a cape while another stands and curls her hair. Two more women in vibrant teal and yellow outfits stand with them. More individuals mingle and chat in the background. This painting is based on a photograph by photojournalist Charles "Tennie" Harris (1908-1998) who captured Black life in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in the early 1900s.
