Hayden Haynes

Artist Info
Hayden HaynesOnödowa’ga:’ (Seneca Deer Clan,) Kiowa, Mvskoke, born 1983

Born in Oklahoma, but raised in Western New York, Hayden Haynes began his artistic career as a young teen, when an aunt gave him a Dremel tool and told him to start creating. After seeing carved antler works by local artists, Haynes began working in earnest, building his technical skills and bringing modern techniques to older practices. Haynes views his artistic practice as both healing and educational. His humor, interest in social justice--particularly around the Hodinöhsö:ni’ nation and women’s issues—and his reverence for traditional aesthetic forms are all apparent in his work. Recognized by the state of New York with a NYSCA/NYFA fellowship in 2021, Haynes has work in various collections throughout New York State, including the Brooklyn Museum and at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. He currently works as both an artist and an activist in Central New York.
