Description(a) hand-carved santo in either pine or cottonwood, covered with smooth gesso layer, and then painted with natural pigments; dressed in classic blue Franciscan robe typical of New Spain; face classically carved with large prominent eyes; traces of color still visible on cheeks; body naturalistically carved and features finely crafted Franciscan cord belt encircling waist- one of artist's trademarks; handles skull in proper left hand and holds up (b) separate, removable cross in right hand; standing on rectangular base.Collections
